In Osh, a mountain rises in the middle of the city. Everyday life goes on at its foot; above it are paths, sacred sites and a museum with an entrance leading into the rock. Climb Sulayman-Too and the city and valley open out below you.
You can stay a few days to explore Osh itself, or spend a night before travelling to the Alay Valley, the Pamirs or Uzbekistan. Your plans help determine which accommodation will suit you: a guest house, a hotel or an apartment.
On Meiman, a dormitory bed starts at 700 som per night, a private guest-house room at 2,000 som and a whole apartment at 3,000 som. These are guide prices from listings checked on 3 October 2026.
Why spend time in the city
Osh has a long history on the Silk Road, but you do not need to start with dates. Start with Sulayman-Too, inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2009. A place of worship for several millennia, the mountain remains the main landmark for getting to know the city.
The museum complex is built into the rock. Walking inside the mountain is reason enough to pause, then step outside and look across the city. Set aside time for the walk so it does not become a hurried stop between arrival and your next journey.
If you want to visit the bazaar, check its current location: relocation of the old central market along the Ak-Buura began in 2025. Older guidebooks may send you to the previous address.
How to choose a location
Start with where you need to be in the morning.
Your plans | How to choose accommodation |
|---|---|
Explore the city | Check the walking route to the entrance you want to use on Sulayman-Too and other places you plan to visit |
Business trip or appointment | Compare the accommodation address with your workplace, clinic or event venue |
Early flight | Confirm that you can leave at night and arrange your airport journey in advance |
Continue to the mountains or Uzbekistan | Find out where your vehicle departs, then choose your accommodation |
Being close to the mountain on a map does not always mean an easy walk to its entrance. Trips towards the Pamirs and the border may also depart from different places: agree on your meeting point before booking.
The airport is about nine kilometres north of the city. For an early flight, staying next to it is not essential: compare the journey from your chosen accommodation and whether you can arrange a car in advance.
Hotel, guest house or apartment
Consider a hotel if you want a private room and service. For business travel, ask which receipts or documents the hotel provides. For a late arrival, check whether reception operates at night. Breakfast, a private bathroom and early check-in depend on the room and property you choose.
A guest house may suit you if you enjoy more personal contact with your hosts. Before travelling further, ask whether they can help find transport and advise on your route. If that help matters, confirm it in advance. Check whether your room has a private or shared bathroom, whether a kitchen is available and whether meals are included. If you need English-speaking assistance, ask before booking.

Consider an apartment for a family or group, especially if you want to cook. Check the number of separate sleeping places, kitchen photographs, appliances and how you receive the keys. Then compare the total cost for everyone with suitable hotel rooms.
If you are travelling alone and want to spend less, consider a dormitory bed. Ask how many people share the room, where you can store your belongings and when you can check in.

When to visit
Consider spring or autumn for walking around the city. Summers in Osh are hot: July's average daily high is about 31°C. For July and August, check that your particular room has air conditioning.
If Osh is the start of a mountain journey, choose your dates around the route ahead. Summer and early autumn are a starting point for planning trips into the Alay and Pamir highlands, but check access to each road and pass separately.

Getting there and planning check-in
The flight from Bishkek takes about an hour. Compare your arrival time with check-in arrangements: if you land early in the morning, agree on early check-in or luggage storage in advance.
The Bishkek–Osh road journey covers about 650 kilometres through mountain sections and passes. Allow a day and some extra time. In winter, check road conditions before leaving: snow and avalanche risk can restrict traffic.
If you are coming across the Uzbekistan border, check entry requirements and the current operating arrangements of your chosen crossing separately.
How to book
Choose accommodation on Meiman and send a request for your dates. The host confirms it; after confirmation, you have two hours to pay the deposit with a Visa card on the bank's secure payment page. Pay the balance to the host at check-in.
Payment of the deposit secures your booking. See the booking payment guide for details.
If time allows, leave a day in Osh without an onward journey. Climb Sulayman-Too, look across the city and spend an evening here. Osh can become a place you have explored as well as the beginning of your next road.
