The city has officially been renamed Manas, but residents and visitors still say Jalal-Abad and search for accommodation under that name. We use both, so there is no confusion: it is the same place — the regional capital in the south of the country.
Mostly for work and regional administration, sometimes for the spa area with its mineral springs, which is what made the town known in the first place. It is also a convenient base for Arslanbob with its walnut forests and for Sary-Chelek lake — both a couple of hours away.
The supply is small: around a dozen hotels in and near the centre, at prices well below Bishkek. In season and during large events rooms run out, so book ahead. If none of the hotels fit, look at everything in the city — apartments and guest houses are listed there too.
Osh is about two hours away and has many times the choice: plenty of travellers sleep in Osh and visit Jalal-Abad for the day. For a trip to Sary-Chelek, guest houses in Arkit, right by the reserve, work better.
You book directly, with no agency fees. Some hotels are confirmed straight away, others once the host has checked the dates. Meiman holds your prepayment until you check in and passes it on only afterwards; the rest you pay on arrival. You can pay by card or by QR.
