Naryn is the administrative centre of Naryn Province and the highest provincial capital in Kyrgyzstan, at about 2,000 metres above sea level. The town itself is not a destination, but the routes into the country's highest mountains run through it: Song-Kul Lake, the Tash-Rabat caravanserai, Kochkor with its felt-craft heritage, and onward to the Torugart pass on the Chinese border. Meiman lists places in the town and across the province: guest houses, short-term apartments and yurt camps in the mountains.
Guest houses are the most common format in Naryn and Kochkor — home-cooked food, help arranging transfers to Song-Kul or Tash-Rabat, budget-friendly prices and often a driver with a car for mountain trips. Short-term apartments are available in Naryn itself, useful for longer stays or business travel. Yurt camps are the main format at Song-Kul (about 3 hours from Naryn) and around Tash-Rabat; the season runs from June through September.
Song-Kul is a high-altitude lake at 3,000 metres and the main yurt destination in the country; the unpaved roads over the passes are open in summer only. Tash-Rabat is a 15th-century stone caravanserai in the At-Bashy district, one of the best-preserved Silk Road monuments, with yurt camps and guest houses nearby. Kochkor is a village on the road from Bishkek, known for traditional felt-making and shyrdak workshops. At-Bashy is a town on the road to Tash-Rabat, closer to the Chinese border.
The main season is summer, June to September, when the roads to Song-Kul are open and the yurt camps operate. From October to May the passes are closed by snow and only Naryn, Kochkor and At-Bashy stay active. The town is high up: warm summer days, cold nights, freezing winters.
QR is the most common payment method in Kyrgyzstan; cards are accepted too. Most properties in Naryn and across the province are confirmed by the host after checking the dates. Once a booking is confirmed, you pay a deposit: Meiman holds it until you check in and only then passes it to the host; the rest is paid on arrival. Book ahead for July and August, especially for a yurt at Song-Kul or an itinerary with transfers and border-zone permits — all of it is arranged in the chat with the host right after booking.
