Hostels in other cities
Other stays in Bishkek
Read in the Journal
Bishkek is where most trips to Kyrgyzstan begin: flights land at Manas, and the roads to Issyk-Kul, Song-Kul and the south start here. A hostel is usually a one- or two-night stop before or after the route, and the cheapest way to sleep in the city.
The centre is walkable: Ala-Too Square, Osh Bazaar, cafés and exchange offices are all close. Areas near the western bus station win if you leave by marshrutka to Osh, Talas or Issyk-Kul in the morning — five minutes to the departure point instead of half an hour in traffic. For a night arrival or departure ask about a transfer: Manas airport is 25 km out of town.
Dorms usually sleep four to eight, some hostels have a female-only room and a private double. Kitchen and showers are shared, linen is normally included, and luggage storage is nearly universal — you can leave the backpack for a day trip to the mountains. Many hostels arrange airport transfers and know where to find people to share a car to Song-Kul or the Pamir Highway.
Travelling as a pair, needing a private bathroom or a quiet night before an early flight — compare an apartment or a guest house: split between two people the gap with two dorm beds almost disappears.
You book directly with the host, with no agency fees. Some hostels are confirmed straight away, others once the host has checked the dates. Meiman holds your prepayment until you check in and passes it to the host only afterwards; the rest you pay on arrival. You can pay by card or by QR.
