Issyk-Kul is the main summer destination in Kyrgyzstan and one of the largest mountain lakes in the world. The peak season runs from June to September, but the shore works year-round: spring and autumn for trekking and hot springs, winter for the ski season in Karakol. Meiman lists almost 700 places around the lake — more than in any other region of the country.

What to choose

Cottages and houses are the largest group, nearly 290 of them: taken by families or groups, with a kitchen and a yard of your own. Guest houses offer home-cooked food, help with excursions and lower prices than the resorts. Sanatoriums and hotels suit holidays with children — private beach, meals, pools. Yurt camps stand by the water and in the mountains, and are booked for the format itself.

Northern or southern shore

The northern shore (Cholpon-Ata, Bosteri, Sary-Oi, Tamchy) has the developed infrastructure — beaches, cafes, water parks — and is easier to reach from Bishkek. The southern shore (Kadzhi-Say, Tamga, Bokonbaevo) is quieter and cheaper, with cleaner water, more yurt camps and open country. Karakol in the east is the base for hikes to Jeti-Oguz and Altyn-Arashan and for the ski season.

When to go

Demand peaks in July and August: prices are higher and the popular houses are taken one to two months ahead. May, June and September are cheaper and less crowded, and the water is still warm in September. In winter Karakol stays busy while the rest of the shore is out of season.

Payment and confirmation

Some properties confirm a booking right away, others are confirmed by the host after checking the dates, so book ahead for the beach season. Once the booking is confirmed, you pay a deposit via QR or by card: Meiman holds it until you check in and only then passes it to the host; the rest is paid on arrival. Check-in and transfer details are arranged in the chat with the host right after booking.
