Hotels at Issyk-Kul

Hotels at Issyk-Kul

There are not many conventional hotels around Issyk-Kul, and that is a feature of the lake: the shore grew up around Soviet-style resorts and private houses rather than hotels. More than half of what exists is in Karakol; most of the rest is in Cholpon-Ata and along the northern shore.

Cholpon-Ata and the northern shore

Cholpon-Ata is the resort centre: a promenade, cafés, the petroglyph museum and boat trips. Hotels here are small, fill up quickly in summer and cost the most in July and August. Bosteri, Kara-Oy and Baktuu-Dolonotu have only a handful of hotels, but the big beaches are right there.

Karakol, all year round

Karakol hotels work regardless of the swimming season: a trekking base in summer, a ski base in winter. If you are coming to the lake for the mountains rather than the beach, start your search here.

If no hotel fits

Three formats cover the same need and are far more common on the lake. Resorts come with meals and their own stretch of beach — the standard family option here. Cottages work out better for a group: a house of your own, a yard, a barbecue. Guest houses are cheaper and almost always include breakfast.

Season and booking

July and August are the peak: rooms go weeks ahead at the highest prices. June and September are calmer, and the water is still warm in September. You book directly, with no agency fees: some hotels confirm straight away, others once the host has checked the dates. Meiman holds your prepayment until you check in and passes it on only afterwards; the rest you pay on arrival. You can pay by card or by QR.
